2017 Contest Open

The 2017 LA Writes youth writing contest is now open for all students in grades k-12 in Louisiana.  You may enter through a school or on your own.  Each entry must include a signed permission form sent by mail to Sara Sims.  The entry form is below and can be downloaded here: LA Writes! Louisiana Writes:

         Youth Writing Contest – 2017

 

Sponsor: Louisiana Writing Project

Competition is open to all Louisiana students.

 

Junior Division:

Prose: French or English Fiction or Nonfiction (750 word limit)

Poetry: French or English up to 3 poems (max. 100 lines total) entered separately

 

Medals awarded in each English category in each of the three grade level divisions:

K-2nd grade,              3rd-4th grade,                  5th -6th grade

Medals awarded in each French category will be for all grade levels within the division.

K – 3rd grade                     4th – 6th grade

 

Senior Division:

Prose: French or English Fiction or Nonfiction (1500 word limit)

Poetry: French or English up to 3 poems (max. 100 lines total) entered on separate forms

 

Medals awarded in each English category in each of the three grade level divisions:

7th-8th grades,             9th-10th grades,           11th-12th grades

 

Medals awarded in each French category will be for all grade levels within the division.

7th – 12th Grades

Prizes will be awarded when possible to all Senior Division winners.

 

Deadline for entry: May 15, 2017

 

  • Notification of winners by September 1, 2017
  • Entries must include an entry form with signed permission for publication.  In order for judging to remain anonymous, please do not put the author’s name on the entry.
  • Staple entry form to entry back to back.
  • Winners may be asked to submit a copy via e-mail in September of 2017. Author should save a personal copy electronically enabling this submission.
  • Winning entries will be published in an anthology, and the winning authors will be invited to an event during the Louisiana Festival of the Book.
  • In any of the winning categories the Louisiana Writing Project maintains the right to declare no winner and withhold prizes if no work of merit is found.
  • Students may enter writings in all categories within their age group.
